Pretty Cool Offroad PC Game Spintires

Had a brain fart and was googling an off-road game for my PC so I can kill some time and go offroading even if I'm not (so not speak) ). And I came across Spintires, which is a Kickstarter backed project to build a pretty awesome offroad game. I haven't seen anything like it after watching the videos. I'm just about to download the techdemo so let's see how good it really is. :)

Have had it for a while now... It's a little tricky to get to work (well, for us technically challenged users anyway... Torsten, you'll probably have it going in a minute... :) )... If you download the actual demo version, you only get 2 trucks and a set map... if you download the user-mod version, you can then actually download and/or create a large range of vehicles... I currently have a GQ Comp truck, but I reckon my actual truck is tougher!! Hehe... same as maps, you can download different maps on the mod version, you just have to delete the media files of the original and re-install the map files from the new download... It's also done in an .rar file, so I found winzip to be a good program for opening it back up...

Quick review on it from my point of view... Yes, it's a cracker game, the level of detail and the actual dynamics of each vehicle and the way it drives is as close to driving simulation as I've ever seen... However, and again, this may be just the fact my computer is used more as a paperweight than really technical stuff, but I find the game to be very jerky and slow at lot of the times... This is due, I imagine to one of two things... Either I haven't got my settings quite right to run it smoothly, or the level of detail in the game, and being a simple demo atm, means it still needs the bugs ironed out... If and when it is ever actually released commercially, I will DEFINATELY be buying a copy!! It really is fun when it's running smoothly... Enjoy boys

I got the demo running no worries. Realism seems pretty good. Didn't know about the mod version of the game. could be alot of fun

Nice and smooth on my 4 year old system. It isn't a rocket but the core i7@ 2.8gHz with 6gb of DDR3 Triple Channel ram and a Nvidia GTX480 Seems to do the job well.

Will be time to upgrade soon :)

Yeah, mine's an [email protected] with 4GB RAM, so not quite as much grunt I guess... Bloody thing is less than 3 years old though... ... damn computers, they're obsolete within a month of buying them...

Sad but true. My system cost me $1500 3 years ago :)

i agree with Dan, as I put him on to the game, my computer is a dinosaur, so it is quite jerky, it can't cope with the detail in the game, we found the best way was to delete the trees as this removed a lot of detail & smoothed it out a lot. and yes being the demo, it took a lot of file swapping/loading just to change maps. but the trucks are tuff as. I had a favourite wrangler & a chev blazer. but I just couldn't cope with the drama it took to sort out if the game found a fault.
if it's finished & can buy it ready to plug & play, woohoo, top fun. it had the turbo whistle perfect!!

Ok... update on SpinTires... according to the OFFICIAL website, it is now complete, released and available to buy for $29.99USD... Might be worth a squiz as soon as I get a few Aussie pesos spare...

Matt, here's the link to the official site... www.spintires.com that should take you straight to the home page, simply click on the tech demo button to the left and that takes you to the demo download page, where you will see two rows of buttons marked Mirror1/2/3 ... the top row is the original version, the bottom row is the user-mod version... Just click on Mirror 2 on the bottom row and go from there... Doesn't matter really which "Mirror" you select, but 2 is already highlighted, so I went with that... Hope you have some luck...

Your i3 processor is a dual core. But for games its mainly your graphics card that gets hammered. What card do you guys have? Mines only just over the top of their top recommended card. But in terms of processor speed you should be ok. For games 32 or 64bit is irrelevant until you go over 4gb of ram

According to the little sticker on my laptop, the graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 520MX-1GB .... means nothing to me unfortunately...
