Media Release 19 February 2015
Plantation forests closed in south east and central Queensland
HQPlantations would like to advise the closure of its forest plantations due to expected
extreme heavy rainfall events being forecast for the south east and central Queensland over
the next few days. The affected plantation areas include the Fraser Coast, Elliott River,
Beerburrum, Mary Valley, Jimna, Yarraman, Pechey- Esk, Passchendaele, Byfield and
Kalpowar areas.
The plantations will be closed to all unauthorised access over the next two weeks to allow
proper assessment of risks and recovery from the weather event.
Due to the localised and heavy nature of rainfall events many of the plantation roads and
tracks may be subject to flooding and may be damaged creating a serious risk to people
attempting to use them. The potential for rapid rises of streams and waterways from heavy
rainfall in the plantation areas is high increasing the risk to life and property.
HQPlantations is appealing to the public to respect this closure so that safe and responsible
access to the plantations can be restored to the public as soon as possible.
