We are planning to do our first real big offroad trip this year over easter. We have at least 10 days for the trip and try to make the most out of it. Here's the thing. None of us is really experienced with this kind of trails and that worries me a bit. But then again that shouldn't hindering us doing something awesomely impressive.

Sooo, what do we need?
How much fuel, how much water?
Should we take a satellite phone?
Can we rely on our gps (TomTom, Google Maps) or should we take maps on paper by something like HEMA maps?
What kind of tools should we take with us (besides we have the best car mechanic among is I can wish for)?
Any places you guys would suggest us to stay?
We are taking our camera gear with us for photos and videos. What should should we not miss to capture?
We are approx. 4-5 cars (may be even more) and whoever feels goosebumps reading "Simpson Desert" should not hesitate to join us. Please please please give us your input :)
