Replacing DOHC 3500 with SOHC 3500 possible (Pajero)?

I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Pajero with a petrol V6 double overhead cam 3.5 litre engine.  It needs replacing.  I was fortunate enough to secure a later 1997 model vehicle with a V6 3.5 litre engine single cam.  Can I use this engine successfully in my vehicle without too much drama?  What problems may I likely encounter?

Hi Graeme and welcome on board. Is the newer model engine a single cam SOHC 3500?

GraemeBeck OP

Yes it is a NL series, about August 1997 build with single cams SOHC 3500.  Otherwise, would you know the whereabouts of a good running DHC for exchange/swap in South East Qld?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I really love my old Pajeros.

not quite the same thing but has anyone put in suspension airbags on a 92' 2.8 pajero for towing??? Am curious if it will interfere with the original VSA  suspension.
