Roo systems 7hp Winch

So my magnum 9k (AKA Cheap warn) has a blown motor I was deciding on whether to replace the motor and seal the gearbox ($300+) or buy a new one.
I was reading up on the Roo Systems 7hp ($695) and the Runva 11xp ($649) and I was leaning towards the Runva with its warranty that covers water ingress when the Roo systems 7hp winch went on sale for $495 with free shipping. So I ended up saving the extra $154 and will probably invest that into a newer 80ch cb as my 40ch is ancient.

I'll post again soon when I receive the winch and will do a full unpacking review and will even strip it down to double check everything before instrallation and bare all for you guys.

Cheers,
Matt

Matt's pretty spot on regarding the cable/rope issue... In the end it really comes down to personal choice and habits... If you're prepared to make sure the rope is always clean, never run over rocks etc, kept out of the sunlight, then rope would be the choice... But if you're a little like me and the closest you get to cleaning the cable is aiming the hose at it and spraying a bit of WD40, and most of your recoveries are chassis deep in mud or over sharp rocks, then you are far better off with cable... In all honesty, since rope hit the market, I've seen dozens of them snap, but I'm yet to personally witness a steel cable snap...

If the ripe does snap it can be tied back together. Im yet to learn how its done though

Ok so it seems they (4wdsupacentre) have rebranded my winch to the SUPA 7HP 12,000LB winch.
All the specs read the same and all the bits look identical to mine.

All right so I finally got to use my new winch in anger today. It's been a mission in itself to get out of the house to go wheeling.

Todays effort out near station creek saw me sink to my chassis in what I can only describe as chocolate mousse covered in a thin layer of toffee, just not tasty...... at all.

I pulled the rope out, it took a bit to get it to come out but I will assume that's because it is new and needs to wear in a bit. Once hooked up to a tree about 15-20m away I set the hand throttle to 1500rpm to get a bit of extra grunt out of the alternator and stood next to the car and hit the switch. Well all I can say is why did I buy a 9,000lb winch in the first place. The bloody winch never slowed down under load and this was while it was pulling the front of the car sideways (45deg) through this slop. Wow. Well worth the money I paid. It hopefully will get a workout soon with a couple of Downthunder members coming my way for a trip so we'll see how it goes recovering a bigger truck than my Pajero.

Cheers,
Matt
